Col. Thomas Saunders, 'eldest son of Thomas Saunders, British consul at St. Valery Sur Somme, came to Canada (1833), settled in Puslinch, built Woodlands (1846), sold it and the farm (1864), and afterwards lived in Guelph, where he died. Clerk of the Peace County of Wellington (1841-1873). Married Lucy Ann Willcocks (daughter of Sir Bernard Willcocks Kt.) Palmerston, Dublin.'--family tree; 'The Saunders built a comfortable farmhouse, which they named "Woodlands," in 1846 and raised their large family there.
