Architect 'of Toronto ... ARIBA [Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects]'--DWS. Born 1899-06-05 in Toronto and lived there. Graduated from RMC and served in WWI, 1918, 'Lieut. CFA [Cdn Field Artillery?] CEF [Cdn Expeditionary Force?]'--DWS. After the war he enrolled in architecture at the U of T 'but left within six months in June of that year without graduating. By January 1921 he had joined the office of Sproatt & Rolph, a leading firm in Toronto, and served his apprenticeship with them.... [He] moved to England where he enrolled in the Architectural Association in London [1923-1926].... [He] returned to Toronto in 1926 and joined Douglas E. Kertland as an assistant (1926-27). Saunders opened his own office in 1928.... In 1934 he formed a partnership with Jack Ryrie (1903-1988) ... The partnership ended in 1940 at the outbreak of WWII.... In 1960 he was recorded as a staff architect with the firm of S.B. Coon & Son'. Retired in 1969. Died in 1991. Buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto. More here.
