Our mayor writes: 'The Town Of Midland and the Beausoleil First Nation will be entering into ... a formalization of how we will cooperate in economic development, land use planning, and generally the sharing of a common geography.  The Town Of Midland is established on the Traditional and Treaty Territory of the Beausoleil First Nation.... This formal recognition is long overdue.'

'When I am asked, "What, in your view, is the worst human rights problem in the world today?" I reply: "Absolute poverty." This is not the answer most journalists expect. It is neither sexy nor legalistic. But it is true.'--Mary Robinson, 7th President of Ireland.

Lisa Richardson of Ontario Nature says it's a 'not so happy World Turtle Day: All Ontario turtles are now at risk.... [Last month] the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada designated the midland painted turtle as Special Concern. This means that all of Ontario’s eight turtle species are now at risk of disappearing from the province....

But there is hope. You can help reduce turtle road mortality by driving with caution.... You can also submit your turtle sightings to the Ontario Reptile and Amphibian Atlas. We use data from the atlas to monitor turtle populations across the province and to develop conservation strategies.'

The Star points out that 'environment is one of the areas the [Ontario] Liberals can be proudest of.... They phased out coal-generation of electricity,... established the Green Belt,... set up cap-and-trade. Of course, the Liberals stumbled as well.... The real danger to progress ... comes from the PCs.' IN10, 2018-05-26.
